How do I prepare for working with special needs children in a summer camp?
Question by JLA: How do we hope for for operative with special needs young kids in a summer camp?
This summer, a crony as well as we have been operative during a stay which specializes in young kids with special needs as well as their siblings. My crony has a small sister with autism so she has lots of experience, though solely from a small volunteering during propagandize as well as my friend’s sister we have really small believe with these kids. Does any one have any recommendation upon how to hope for myself as well as benefit believe about how to assistance as well as offer these young kids in a many successful approach possible? When we volunteered during an adult day caring program. (a place for aged or disabled adults) It takes time to get to know clients.
Just go with a flow. Meaning bland will get easier. Getting to know a kids personalities as well as what sort of things they need assistance with.
Also, inspire them to do things upon their own. Don’t over highlight yourself meditative each customer or kid needs assistance 100 percent of a time. If we need a 3 notation break. Tell someone during a summer camp. we need a lavatory or 3 mins to ease down.
I am certain they will understand.

You can do research, or you could find a babysitting job for children with special needs, and see if your friend can help you with it so that you know how to do everything and try to find a few children with cerbal palsey, a few with mental retardation, a few with different forms of autism, a few with adhd, and few with regular learning disablities!!!;)
(February 15th, 2011 at 7:06 pm)There are a number of ways to get more information on autism. The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) has a great website and if you live in a big enough town, they might have a branch there.
Autism Speaks also is a national organization with information on autism.
Unknown to most people, Utube has tons of videos of working with autistic, Down Syndrome and other disabilities. You can at least get a very good idea of the variety of autistic kids there are and the demeanor of those working with them. You are very wise to get some information on autism. It is puzzling and daunting at times and if you don’t know what to expect, you could be very confused.
(February 15th, 2011 at 7:57 pm)just remember not every child with the same disorder is alike, and never assume that just because someone can not talk they don’t understand, never listen to this example ( he is 10 but his mental age is 3 don’t because this has proving to be bull shit so many time) people with disorder have streanght and weakness just like everyone else, dont see the special need see the child it self.

I have a brother with a severe form of autism and I also have spent some time at his special needs school so I have been around other kids like that too. you never really know how they are going to act so just be selfless and ready to learn and serve. I have been taking care of him mostly on my own for many years. if you have any other questions you can talk to me.
